Diet Vs Disease
We are being manipulated. Here is what you need to know.
Have you heard of “the frog in the frying pan” syndrome?
If you put a frog in a hot frying pan, it will immediately jump out but put a frog in a cold frying pan and slowly increase the temperature; eventually, you will have a cooked and very dead frog.
Sorry for being so gruesome; I am trying to make an analogy of our current state of affairs as it pertains to the feeble health of our nation.
We are being manipulated!
Big tobacco seduced us from the early 1900’s well into the mid-1900s and later led people to think it was glamorous and that there was nothing wrong with it.
Finally, evidence has shown us the horrible adverse effects it has.
Well, we have an almost identical crisis now, and most people never saw it coming and don’t see it now even though they are suffering from chronic disease, fatigue, depression, and anxiety.
That is because big food behaves quite a bit as big tobacco did. It started a long time ago, and now they are in complete control.
I am talking about processed convenience food.
Only 1 in 20 people consider themselves healthy!
“Just one in 20 people worldwide (4·3%) had no health problems in 2013, with a third of the world’s population (2·3 billion individuals) experiencing more than five ailments, according to a major new analysis from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2013, published in The Lancet.
That means that only one out of every 20 people reading this article consider themselves completely healthy.
According to National Vitals Statistics Report, chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States, leading to 7 out of 10 deaths each year.
Heart disease, cancer, and stroke alone cause more than 50% of deaths annually.
There are many forces at work here, including our environment, the busy, stressful lives we lead, and what we put into our bodies.
While we may not have complete control over our environment and, to some degree, the stress in our lives, we do have control over what we are consuming.
This is where I believe we need to feel the heat in the frying pan and jump out quickly.
Just like big tobacco, there are companies out there lining their pockets on the sales of garbage food, and that garbage food is killing us.
Did you know that only ten companies control almost all the large food and beverage brands in the world?
Nestlé, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Danone, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Mars, Associated British Foods, and Mondelez —
These companies make billions of dollars in revenue every year.
Oxfam designed this awesome infographic, showing exactly how interconnected consumer brands are.
I am waiting to learn that big pharma and big food are actually in bed together.
Think about it.
Crazy? Probably- but I bet big pharma loves big food!
Big food makes money selling their crappy food to us.
We get sick, and then big pharma gets rich selling us their overpriced drugs.
By eating whole natural nutrient-dense foods, we can stand against these corporations. We can heal our bodies, feel better, and be less dependent on our medical system.
Eating clean is considered a lousy philosophy by some. I believe it is just common sense.
No one should beat themselves up if they have a snickers bar. (My favorite candy bar, by the way).
But our bodies need the nutrients found in real, whole, clean food.
Chronic disease results from inflammation that occurs when we consume a higher ratio of processed garbage food to nutrient-dense real food.
Slap big food in the face!
Kick big pharma to the curb!
Eat clean.
It can be fun, fresh, sexy, easy, and rewarding.
Together we can change the world.
