If you haven’t read the intro and Tip #1 for this new series start here.

My last article Tip #1 covered the importance of planning. We save a lot of money by purchasing only what we need, decrease impulse buying, shopping for sale items, and being strategic in our meal planning.

This week Tip #2 we will discuss batch cooking.

Batch Cook

When preparing a meal, determine if it freezes well. If so, prepare a large batch and place the leftovers in freezer containers. Now, you have several meals that you can take out of the freezer and heat up for dinner.

Examples of meals you can freeze are:

  • Chili
  • Soup
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Pulled Pork
  • Taco Meat with or without Beans
  • Burrito Filling
  • Stuffed Peppers
  • Cabbage Rolls
  • Meatballs
  • Eggplant Parmesan or Rollatini
  • Meatloaf
  • Chicken Cacciatore

That is off the top of my head, so I am sure there are many more meals that freeze well. When preparing these items for dinner, double or triple the recipes and put the extra meals in the freezer. Plan to Eat has a feature that tracks your freezer meals.

When you see an item on sale you can buy extra which will save you money later on.
