I will not lie and tell you gardening is cheap. Gardening can be pretty costly. There are many techniques that can keep the cost down, and once you get up and running, you CAN save money.

With the right strategies, gardening can provide food that is fresher, more nutrient-dense, is free from chemicals, pesticides, and harmful organisms like listeria and e. coli.

And, if that is not enough of a reason, gardening can save you a lot of money.

There are so many reasons to garden, but without straying too far from the original intent of this article, I will proceed with Saving Money on Groceries- Tip #5.

Grow Your Own Food

If you are new to gardening, I would suggest starting small. Herbs are a great way to get your feet wet, or should we say “muddy?”

What kind of herbs do you use most often? Parsley, cilantro, oregano, basil? These herbs are easy to grow and can be grown in pots or small spaces.

When you are ready to advance your selection try adding some lettuce or kale.

There are numerous books, tutorials, and courses. Gardening can be very complex, and folks like me that have been gardening their whole life will be the first to admit they are still learning.
